We started out in 1996 as a small group of San Diego home brewers who simply wanted to make a better beer. In our exploration, we became obsessed with ingredients—tinkering, testing and tasting to find the perfect balance of taste and aroma. That adventurous spirit leads to award-winning beers in classic and unique styles while challenging our own tastes and expanding yours.

Home Brew Mart opens in San Diego, the future home of Ballast Point Brewing Company.
We brewed & sold our very first beer: Ballast Point Special.
We begin packaging beers. Endless hand labeling ensues.
Our award-winning Sculpin IPA is brewed for the first time, by combining two different home brew recipes. It’s an instant hit.
Opened our first production brewery in Scripps Ranch, San Diego.
Ballast Point wins “Champion Small Brewery” at World Beer Cup®.
We venture into the restaurant business with our first kitchen and R&D brewery in Little Italy, San Diego.
Fan demand outgrows our tanks, so we expand to a bigger production brewery & headquarters in San Diego’s Miramar area.
Ballast Point proudly joins the Constellation brand family.
We open our first East Coast home—a production brewery and restaurant in Daleville, Virginia.
Our Chicago R&D brewery and restaurant opens in the West Loop.
