Devil’s Share Moonshine earns 96 points, named “benchmark of the category”
March 5, 2014 (San Diego, CA) – Three Ballast Point spirits, all in the Devil’s Share whiskey family, have earned gold medals or better from the Beverage Tasting Institute, as announced Monday.
Ballast Point Devil’s Share Moonshine earned a Platinum medal and was rated Superlative with 96 Points. The judges commended it for being flavorful and smooth, naming it “a delicious artisan moonshine that is a benchmark of the category.”
Devil’s Share Bourbon and Devil’s Share Single Malt Whiskey each earned Gold medals and were rated Exceptional, with 92 and 90 points respectively. Judges described the whiskey as a “deliciously zesty and unconventional single malt,” and noted the bourbon was “very distinctive with an alluring floral hop quality.”
“We still consider ourselves newcomers to the art of distilling, so we are always humbled by accolades like these,” said Yuseff Cherney, Ballast Point Head Brewer/Head Distiller. “It’s further proof that making what we love to drink yields great results.”
“That the unaged moonshine earned the highest honor of the three speaks to the amount of flavor we aim to get from each of our spirits before they even touch a barrel,” Cherney continued.
Ballast Point Devil’s Share Moonshine is available year round, and Batch 2 of the Devil’s Share Bourbon will be released on a very limited basis over the next several months. Batch 2 of the Single Malt whiskey should be ready in early 2015, once it has aged for four years.
“We take great pride in all of our Devil’s Share spirits, and never want to rush them,” explained Cherney. “It takes a good amount of time, effort and patience to put forward an award-winning product, and we’re just getting started with the whiskeys.”
