Drink Recipes

After "pouring" over many recipes, it seems it is always those vintage recipes with hard to find ingredients that are the ones that catch my eye. The power of the internet puts many of these hard to find ingredients within reach, as does the proliferation of many new specialty liquor stores. With old recipes and newly found spirits and mixers the mixologist is reborn. Tastes are changing from the mundane to the wondrous world of flavors, once but a dream to the bartenders of the 20's. Now that we have the spirts we need mixers, so Ballast Point's very own Bloody Mary Mix is born!

We make the beer, spirits and mixes, enjoy the quest!

  • 1/2 oz. Lime Juice
  • 1/4 oz. Benedictine Liquer
  • 1/3 oz. Grenadine Syrup
  • 1 dash Angostura Bitters

Gin Fizz  (without ice in glass)---Tom Collins (with ice in glass)

  • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar
  • Soda Water
  • Orange Slice and Maraschino Cherry for garnish

Directions:

Add lemon juice and powdered sugar and shake until chilled.  Strain into Collins glass filled with ice for a Tom Collins or leave un-iced for the Gin Fizz and top with soda water and gently stir. Garnish with Orange Slice and Maraschino Cherry and serve immediately.

The Ballast Point Old Grove Martini (sorry Mr. Bond)

  • 2 1/2 ounces gin
  • 1/4 ounce vermouth
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • Lime or lemon or olive or cocktail onion for garnish

Directions:

In a glass with ice add Old Grove Gin. For all you aspiring bartenders who need help with measurements without extra tools, just fill the Martini glass about 2/3 full with gin and add this to mixing glass with the ice.  Add dash of vermouth to empty Martini glass swirl and discard vermouth. Do not shake the Martini mixture, as this introduces air creating a cloudy drink that is heavily watered down as well. Instead grab a mixing spoon and spin gin and ice around for about 30 seconds. Strain into vermouth rinsed Martini glass and serve immediately.

If you need a garnish add your favorite, perhaps a twist or an olive, but remember we like our Martinis stirred...not shaken, sorry James!

The Old Grove Mule

  • 2 ounces gin
  • 1/4 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 5 ounces Premium Non Alcoholic Ginger Beer (Fever Tree Ginger Beer is my favorite)
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 5 shakes of Angostura Bitters
  • Lime and Mint to Garnish

Directions:

In a glass with ice combine gin, lime juice, and ginger beer. Add Angostura bitters and gently stir mix but not too much as to release carbonation from ginger beer.

Garnish drink with a fresh lime and a sprig of mint and serve immediately.
