How It Started

Ballast Point Brewing Company was started in 1996 by a few friends who had been home brewing for years, and coincidentally owned Home Brew Mart, San Diego's premier home brew supply store. After growing to over 10,000 barrels per year, Yuseff and Jack decided why not make spirits too. After attending classes on distillation and some great conferences in Kentucky, put on by Bill Owens and the American Distilling Institute, it was official, Ballast Point Spirits was born. With lots of favors called on (thanks Rob and Jeff) we put together a hybrid still and off we went, the first craft distillery in San Diego, not to mention IN A BREWERY!!! We  make Gin, Whiskey, Rum and other spirits that we love to drink ourselves.  Since we have a brewery we can make whiskey wash, and we do... from grain to barrel, all right here.
