Scottish Ale with Pumpkin

A pumpkin ale the bucks the trend.
Some might think we’re out of our gourd for making a pumpkin ale, but our Pumpkin Down is not like the others.  The caramel and toffee maltiness of our Piper Down Scottish ale is the perfect backdrop for a boatload of roasted pumpkin. Just before bottling, we add a subtle amount of spice to complement, but not overwhelm, the earthy flavor. It was a smash at the brewery, and we think you’ll agree.

With a deep orange hue reminiscent of pumpkin pie, a Scottish ale is the perfect backdrop for this beer. A three hour boil enhances the caramel and toffee flavors provided by the British malts. Just before bottling, a small amount of spices are added to compliment, but not overwhelm, the pumpkin flavor.

Cream Ale with Coffee & Vanilla

A coffee ale with a touch of cream.
Calm Before the Storm came from a quest for a warm weather alternative to our Victory at Sea Imperial Porter. Like its more robust cousin, we infuse a punch of flavor using cold brewed Caffé Calabria coffee and a hint of vanilla. But this time, we added it to a lighter-bodied golden cream ale. The end result is a surprisingly bright, coffee-forward beer that’s perfectly refreshing.

A fresh take on a traditional festival beer.
Our Dead Ringer Oktoberfest lager is inspired by old-style Märzen brews customarily enjoyed during Bavaria’s world-famous beer festival. Thanks to an abundance of toasted malt and a lower hop bitterness, this dark reddish brown lager is loaded with sweet, caramel toffee flavors and aromas. All the taste and celebration of Oktoberfest packed into one bottle; no lederhosen required.

Pours burnt orange to reddish brown in color with aromas of rich sugars, nutty toasted malts, fresh baked biscuits and reserved hop spice. Pilsner Malt, Munich Malt and German Noble Hops all help build those classic aromas into this cold fermented lager. Caramunich Crystal Malt and low bitterness also add to the creamy and complex flavors layered in this beer. Oktoberfest is inspired by older versions of Oktoberfest Lagers that leaned toward the caramel/toffee flavors typical in darker Märzen Beers.

Our Victory at Sea Imperial Porter is a bold, smooth brew with just the right amount of sweetness. We infused this robust porter with vanilla and San Diego’s own Caffe Calabria coffee beans. The subtle roasted notes and minimal acidity of the cold brewed coffee, balances perfectly with the sweet caramel undertones of the malt, creating a winning combination for your palate.

Although the winters in San Diego don’t get too brutal, the brewers at Ballast Point wanted a warmer, Winter Ale that brings comfort on those days when you can see your breath. This Imperial Porter clocks in at 10% ABV and gets most of its roasted flavor from coffee beans prepared locally at Caffe Calabria on 30th Street. Winter Ales traditionally have a spice, and in this beer we chose vanilla to round out this very special “big” beer. Our Victory at Sea Imperial Porter is infused with ¾ ounce cold brewed coffee per pint.

First brewed as an American Stout before being amped up to a big and bitter Imperial Stout. Pours jet black, completely opaque, with khaki foam. Sea Monster contains aromas of licorice, citric hops, malted milk balls, and coffee and flavors of molasses, dark cherry sugars, licorice, cocoa nibs, and roasted, oily malts. Toffee sweetness and silky oats round out this strong ale without being cloying.
